Pittsburgh area higher education institution is in need of an experienced Payroll Specialist.  The selected candidate will be responsible for performing daily payroll activities, including processing the bi-weekly payroll related to faculty, staff and students to ensure compliance with applicable laws and University policy and procedures.

Duties to include:

•          Processes bi-weekly payroll and supplemental payrolls in a timely manner in accordance with University policies and procedures by checking timesheets for accuracy, entering adjustments, calculating deductions, vacation payouts; verifying pay for employees on FMLA; voiding incorrect payroll checks, reissuing direct deposits or paper checks; generating payroll/deduction registers; setup direct deposits; submitting ACH direct deposit files and adjustments to bank .

•          Prepares, organizes, disseminates, and processes payroll resources, communications, and materials for the University under the general supervision of the Controller.

•          Prepares and audits standard payrolls, and completes payroll transactions and changes adhering to established policies and procedures to meet anticipated deadlines.

•          Receives, responds to, and resolves employee payroll questions, issues and problems.

•          Counsels new, existing, and terminating employees on payroll options, timelines, withholding taxes, and deductions.

•          Represents the University at institutional payroll workshops, informational meetings, and training sessions.

•          Contributes to the development, implementation, interpretation, and revision of Human Resources policies and procedures according to institutional and legal rules and regulations.

•          Run bi-weekly reports to assure employees are paid accurately and timely ,

•         Monitor work hours for ACA compliance.

Requirements:

•          Accounting degree or equivalent experience is preferred.

•          3+ years prior accounting and payroll experience preferred.

•          Knowledge of Excel required, experience with ADP Workforce Now strongly preferred.

•          Experience with nonprofit and or higher education payroll processing preferred.

•          Must be professional and customer service focused; ability to maintain confidentiality is essential.

•          Must have the ability to organize, communicate, problem solve, research, initiate and manage projects effectively and accurately.

•          The ability to multi-task and to work as part of a team is essential.

•          Positive attitude and collegial.
