Major downtown law firm is in need of an experienced Accounting Manager.  The selected candidate will provide direct supervision to support personnel who manage client billing activities while overseeing the daily operations of all accounting functions.  

Duties to include:

·         Oversee the client billing process including preparation of pre-bills, paper billing, electronic billing, and the appeals process

·         Prepare and/or review GL entries and reconciliations

·         Partner with the Collections Manager and provide information to support timely and efficient receivable/collections efforts

·         Control and maintain records related to petty cash distribution

·         Assist in the review and reconciliation of credit card accounts

·         Establish, monitor, enforce, and improve policies and procedures that balance the need for procedural consistency with flexibility to resolve issues

·         Ensure cross-training of personnel to meet operational and coverage needs

·         Coordinate with the IT Department to ensure correct set-up of users in billing and accounting systems, and related to software upgrades

·         Assist with the preparation of monthly financial reports, annual budgets, and year-end financial data compilation

·         Prepare regular and ad hoc reports for internal and external reporting

·         Manage staff responsible for billing, AP, AR, and GL functions

·         Perform personnel management activities including interviewing and selection, preparing performance evaluations, resolving morale or training concerns, and addressing performance issues


·         Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or other relevant areas of study, or comparable experience

·         Billing and/or accounting experience, preferably in a law firm or other professional services environment

·         At least two years of experience supervising others or serving in a lead role which included performance management responsibility

·         Computer skills including MS Office applications, billing software, timekeeping systems; understanding of database concepts

·         Strong problem-solving, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills

·         Ability to effectively communicate with all organizational levels

·         High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and follow through
